Funding for Children and Young People – Sports England

As of the 8th March, schools within England welcomed pupils back into the classroom. 2020 was a very challenging year for all and in particular for children and young people. According to Young Minds, it is estimated one in eight children and young people have a diagnosable mental health condition which roughly equates to three children in every classroom*. When looking at these statistics, the impact of coronavirus on school age children becomes clearer.
Exercise has been proven to release endorphins and increase concentration levels which can in turn improve mental health. In light of this, Sport England have secured a further £10.1 million of government funding to allow schools to open their facilities for physical activities outside of normal school operating hours. This multitude of funding will enable eligible schools and organisations to invest in sports and outdoor fitness equipment so that children and young people can improve their overall wellbeing.
